Gotta Look Good on TV
Monday, October 22, 2007 at 10:24PM In the movie Back to the Future there was a scene when Dr. Brown realized why Ronald Reagan became president. He was looking at a video camera and says, "No wonder your president has to be an actor, he's gotta look good on TV." After using WIZiQ for two staff development projects, teaching our Smart Board teachers how to record Smart Board use, Animoto for some slide shows, Voice Thread (thanks Cathy Nelson for this tip) for annotated slide shows. and observing uStream.tv, I realize teachers of the future will not only have to look good on video, they will have to become producers, directors, videographers, editors, set designers, and anything else needed to produce a video. Maybe it is time education schools start looking into introducing media creation skills into education curriculum.

I hope we don't have to look too good or I am in trouble! Actually, I am podcasting extensively at school and have just launched my own website to try to share my work and encourage collaboration. I have found that the tools available today make it pretty easy for a motivated teacher to produce work with little training. Screencasts help alot and most programs I have used have them. You can see my work at masterymaze.com. It was created in camtasia and was fairly easy to learn.
I use Camtasia too but mainly for training videos. You might want to try Jing Project, www.jingproject.com. It is by the same TechSmith but I find it easier to use sometimes.
